Lavender Swirl with Buttermilk - A conditioning Shampoo bar! Excellent for the body too!
Not your mama's lavender! Notes of fresh lavender buds infused with patchouli, sandalwood, ylang ylang, amber, violet, cedar wood and powdery tonka delicately swirled in a shampoo base of buttermilk for extra conditioning properties.
This is a conditioning shampoo bar. Buttermilk is high in triglyceride content making it an excellent natural moisturizer. The buttermilk base also contains oatmeal to pamper a dry scalp and calendula extract to moisturize and soothe. Honey is included for it's natural antioxidants and anti-microbial benefits; dl-panthenol (pro-vitamin B5) for extra conditioning and silk protein to help soften the hair.
A wonderfully clean scent. 6 ozs
This is a sulfate free and paraben free shampoo bar, which means it does not contain the harsh detergents that have been known to cause irritation and scalp issues in some individuals. This shampoo bar is much gentler on your hair and non-stripping to your scalp.
Purchasing shampoo bars is a very economical and earth-friendly choice. Liquid shampoos in plastic bottles are mostly water. With the bars, water has to be added; a lot less potentially harmful ingredients in the bars; bars are made in small batches and therefore very fresh by the time you receive them.
Because this shampoo bar, and all of the shampoo bars that I will be creating in the near future, does not contain the sulfates and parabens, the lather will not be as abundant as what you may be use to with traditional shampoos. That's OK. The sulfates that produce lather in traditional soap bars and shampoos have nothing to do with cleaning your hair and scalp. Since these shampoo bars contain safer alternative ingredients, the harsher chemical thickeners, hardeners, foaming agents and preservative that are used to make soap bars hard and last a lot longer, are NOT in these shampoo bars.
Here are a few tips, however, to make your shampoo bar last much longer for your loc cleansing enjoyment:
Tip #1 - Don't allow the entire bar to get wet. Just cut and divide your bar into smaller 2,3 or 4 chunks. Save and store your unused shampoo bar in a cool dry place away from the moisture of your shower. If you purchased several shampoo bars, you can store them in the wax paper bag that they came in and then keep them in an air tight plastic container or a plastic zip lock bag.
Tip #2 - Don't allow your shampoo bars to sit in standing water in the shower. They will melt quicker than traditional soaps with the added chemicals. Let your shampoo bar dry completely and then store on the counter. They're fragrant and they'll make your bathroom smell wonderful.
Tip #3 - Cut a chunk of your shampoo bar and leave near the kitchen sink. Great for cleaning your hands and the essential oil blend is very effective in reducing strong food odors like fish and onion when preparing meals.
Tip #4- Cut a chunk to keep in your bag after a work out at the gym. You can shampoo and shower with the same bar. How great is that?! Shampoo bars feels great on the skin when showering and bathing. They're also great for traveling.
How To Use Your Lavender Swirl with Buttermilk Shampoo Bar
Thoroughly soak locs with water while gently squeezing the water through your locs for complete saturation. Wet your shampoo bar and starting at the scalp, very gently and softly "glide" the shampoo bar throughout your locs. (If you've already pre-cleansed your scalp with the "Ooh!" Scalp Detox Shampoo bar, then just concentrate on sudsing the length of your locs). Work up a nice gentle lather and rinse thoroughly and completely. While rinsing, make sure you lift, separate and gently squeeze water through your locs until the water runs clear and there are no suds left in your locs - then rinse some more.
One shampoo is usually sufficient unless you have significant build up. Repeat the shampooing process only if needed.
NOTE: These shampoo bars clean your hair and locs very thoroughly, however if you already have "buildup" within your locs, you may have to do a clarifying shampoo or other means to release the buildup within your locs.
AFTER THE SHAMPOO Conditioning Treatment - Towel dry your locs with a lint-free towel or micro fiber wrap. Generously spritz your locks with the HealthyLocs Ultimate Conditioning Formula with Goat's Milk and Shea Butter. Follow up with a very light application of the "Ooh!" Scalp Serum on your scalp (if you have scalp issues - dry, itchy & flaky scalp) or just apply a light application of the Loc Luv Conditioning Hair and Body Oil to your scalp and hair (this oil is also wonderful on your skin after a bath or shower. I apply it from head to toes almost daily - a great multi-purpose oil). Allow you locs to air dry or style as usual. Your locs will be left soft and fragrant.
